EDM Mold Services: Wire, Hole Pop & Sinker.Evansville, Indiana
Some detail is too fine or too deep for a cutter to reach. It gets burned into hardened steel with electrical sparks instead. The burns run overnight, while the building is empty.

Why us
Why burn it here?
Sparks instead of cutting pressure
Sparks remove steel without pushing on it. That is how hardened blocks get detail a cutter cannot reach.
Wire, sinker and CNC hole pop
A robot keeps three machines cutting overnight
A robot with tool changers runs the sinker department around the clock, with nobody in the building. Hours nobody staffs cost less, and that shows in your quote.
Erowa Linear robot, 3 machines, 24/7
Electrodes never hold the queue up
Three automated graphite mills cut the electrodes that feed the EDM bank, so electrode work never queues behind machining work.

What fits
Detail a cutter cannot reach.
What gets burned here instead of machined.
- Ribs and sharp corners
- Complex contours
- Interchangeable inserts
- Broken drills and taps
- Accurate holes in hardened steel
- Fine detail that must not move
Not sure whether your detail needs wire, a sinker or a hole popper? Describe the feature and we will tell you which, and why.

What to expect
What you get before your work leaves.
Detail no cutter could reach
Ribs, sharp corners and fine features are burned into hardened steel instead of being machined around.
Broken tooling comes out
CNC hole popping puts accurate holes through hardened steel and pulls broken drills and taps.
Nothing pushes your part out of position
The electrode never touches the work, so no cutting force can move a thin rib while it is cut.
The detail is verified
Burned detail is checked on a coordinate measuring machine before it moves to the next operation.

Who does it
The shop behind the work.
Dexterous has built molds in Evansville since 1979, and the second generation of the family runs it now. A tool built here comes back here for a repair, to the people who cut it.
New to this? What is EDM, and why does it run all night here?
It removes steel with controlled sparks instead of cutting pressure. That is how hardened blocks get ribs, corners and detail a milling cutter cannot reach. The process is slow and steady, which makes it ideal for automation. A robot loads electrodes and pallets around the clock. Burns that would tie up a machinist all day happen overnight instead. The electrode never touches the steel, so nothing pushes a thin rib out of position. The work also runs unattended: a robot feeds three of these machines around the clock.
Before you order
What buyers ask before sending EDM work.
Why use EDM instead of milling?
Hardened steel, sharp internal corners, deep ribs and fine details that a rotating cutter physically cannot produce. EDM burns them with sparks, holding tight tolerances in steel that has already been heat treated.
What does lights-out machining mean for my price?
Our robot-fed EDM cell runs unattended around the clock. Unattended machine hours cost less than attended ones, and those savings are built into how we quote EDM-heavy work.
Can you remove a broken drill or tap?
Yes. The hole poppers make quick work of broken drills and taps embedded in steel, without damaging the surrounding part.
